TERMINOLOGY

When it comes to CPR, we use the following definitions:

• The victim is treated as an adult if he or she appears to be 13 years or older in age.

• The victim is treated as a child if he or she appears to be between 1 year old and 12 years old.

• The victim is treated as an infant if he or she appears to be under 12 months old.

• A compression is defined as pressing down on the victim's chest at a depth of at least 2 inches (5 cm) in adults and a compression depth of approximately 1.5 inches (4 cm) in infants and 2 inches (5 cm) in children.
